Wet Tropics World Heritage forests

The World Heritage Wet Tropics comprises a number of different landscapes having roughly the following breakdown:

  • Wet Tropics Rainforest - 65%
  • Wet Sclerophyll Forests 25%
  • Mangroves and Beaches 10%

Typically rainforest has a closed canopy where less than 20% of the sunlight reaches the forest floor. As a result their are no grasses, and the rainforest floor is mostly covered with damp leaf litter.

By contrast Wet Sclerophyll forests are dominated by Eucalypts, with open canopies. Because large amounts of sunlight reach the ground, dry grasses and fires are commonplace.

With Food Trail Tours you will travel through both Rainforest and Wet Sclerophyll landscapes, at the edge of the Outback.
